The Handover

Rootnote builder

Describe the project once. You get a set of rootnotes for it: an index for the project root that says which file to read and when, and one file per area you choose — general guidance throughout, and the specific things that caught us out wherever your choices match ours.

25 areas · 54 fragments, 13 hard-won · assembled in your browser, nothing sent anywhere, no account

1 What kind of project is it?

Decides which areas are offered and which start ticked. Changing it starts the areas again from that kind of project's defaults.

2 What should it cover?

Each area becomes one file. Anything you leave out is listed in the index as deliberately not covered, so an agent does not mistake a missing file for a missing concern.

3 About your rules

The questions the rules you chose need answering. A question several files ask is asked once and fills them all. Anything left blank stays as a visible placeholder, and the index tells an agent to ask rather than guess. Your answers live in the link, so regenerating later re-applies them to the current text.

4 About those services

Choose a service above and its questions appear here. Nothing is asked that the set does not need. Service areas are offered for software projects only. Every tool here also hasits own page, with the rules that matter for it.

5 Which tool reads it?

Decides where the index goes and what it is called. Under Cursor, each area's line becomes that rule's description, which is how Cursor already decides what to load. The text of every file is identical whichever you pick.
